I find this ad disgusting and hypocritical.

If a female version of this was available, the company would have the mob with pitchforks and torches at their doors.

So why is it "Great Design" for us males to be the target of this "joke?"

Why stop at centuries? The white man has been oppressing everyone for two thousand years, according to the writer of "orientalism." Of course, that ignores pretty much 1800 years of history to make that claim.

That same "orientalism" is also the basis for a lot of "academic" writings these days.

To assume that the symbol wearing a dress is female is sexism at its worst. Don't you know in this day and age women can wear pants, and males can wear a dress if they so desire? Are you trying to force the sexes back into centuries old stereotypes? And on a progressive board? Oh, the shame!

One way in which the OP betrays sexist conditioning is in the equation of this generic sexless figure with a male human as the default gender.

And I think it's a pretty funny item! It's coming up as the ad on this thread, of course.

So no thanks. I do think this figure is as sexually charged as a stick figure, however, so it's hard to find misandry in it. It could just as easily be a pre pubescent child.

It's still vaguely human and that's what makes it vile.

I think that as people we should certainly support your rejection of a depiction of another person with knives stabbed through them. Whether the figure is male or female it is absolutely abhorrent to produce a product where people put knives through a figure of another person.

The sleek watches created by EARTH are the perfect gift for your tree-hugging friend. Made from organic wood, these analog timepieces are designed as a heartfelt symbol of global preservation. What’s more, each eye-catching accessory in this collection is one of a kind—making eco-awareness both fashionable and fun.

Its not even recycled wood - its "organic" wood. WTF is that??? So they had to cut down an "organic" tree to make a watch? That's earth friendly? Who the hell are these dopes?

Sometimes it's me when she puts a knife back, sometimes people she works with.

This is much milder behavior than our matriarchal frontier women ancestors. My wife and I both have grandmothers and great grandmothers who'd have carved up a rotten man as expertly as they carved up very large animals for the dinner table.

One of my great grandmothers especially, I witnessed this several times as a child -- whenever she picked up a knife any argument was over, you said, "Yes, Ma'am" and it didn't matter if you were the Sheriff or a Bishop or so-called "head of household," you backed down.
