his wife or mom insisted on it, and she was standing right there insisting.

Otherwise it makes him look like the biggest, most coddled sissy in history.

That is the closest equivalent to Baby Bush wiping his glasses on the shirt tails of a Letterman staffer without asking.

I know it may look odd to see someone holding that char like that, but I happen to have a bistro set exactly like the one in the photo, and those chairs are not as stable as they might appear--at least if you stand on one, and especially if you shift your weight, as Romney surely did. I'm sure it is even worse for someone of Romney's size. That chair really wasn't the best choice if he needed something to stand on.
