Nothing, and I mean nothing, will help the economy more...

....in terms of the spending power of average Americans than earmarking the coming increase in revenue - tied to rich wads of fucks finally paying their share - to helping those with outsized student loans. For too long corporations have taken advantage of the education Ponzi scheme where they get a highly trained college graduate for pennies on the dollar because the now employee has been hamstrung by private lenders.

Guess what, fuckwads, the free ride is over and you're going to have to pay your bill.

Oh, and as for H1B visas, start restricting them, like fucking now. There are plenty of qualified Americans who can fill those 'hard-to-find' skilled jobs.

Why would a smart young person go to college, take out thousands of dollars in student loans, and major in computer science, if they knew that upon graduation they would have to compete with immigrants willing to work for peanuts and no benefits? Bill Gates is such a hypocrite. All this money he throws at "reforming" STEM education because he says he can't get Americans with the proper training. BULLSHIT! It's supply and demand baby. If he was willing to pay enough, Americans would be getting the training.

Brother and I was talking the other day and he brought up the fact that the pendulum started swinging right in earnest with ronnie raygun and his cabal of crooks and its starting to swing back towards the left now. After hearing his argument I have to say I agree that we're starting to see that pendulum swinging back to the left. The people on the left for the most part are people who aren't driven by hate of this and then that as the right is so when we're in control good things happen for the average citizen, the 99% of us.
I'll leave you with this. The left doesn't do bullshit like the right do.

that would give some people that gave up when they were close to graduating? Maybe a couple of years going part time to finish up would more than pay for itself.

But are you really suggesting that we forgive student loans en masse, no matter how frivolous the course of "study" engaged in that the loan paid for?

Not with you on that. Nor would I want taxpayers to pay off a loan on an SUV for me, or a house loan on my vacation property. Furthermore, it's never going to happen.

....a degree adds value and mutual benefit to the community. A student loan paid off gives the graduate greater buying power to the community as a whole. It isn't a trickle down - or in my opinion a piss on - by the wealthy bag of dicks, but a downpour of rain that feeds an entire nation.

Nobody was holding a gun to the head of the student borrower who went for a degree that could reasonably have been foreseen to be nearly worthless.

The President has already made changes to the student loan payback system that I can live with, forgiveness of loans for bullshit studies is just not going to happen.

...however would you give up $1,000,000 in career earning potential as the difference between a graduate and non-graduate?

And please don't give me the "I know plumbers, electricians, dry-wallers and painters, blah, blah, blah..." BS, in the final analysis they are subject to the same oscillations of the economy (even more so during the housing crisis) and they get paid by guess who? That's right, high income graduates (who outnumber them).

It's in the nation's best interests to reduce the liability of the student loan crisis and I have zero problem as one of dem dere college graduates paying my fair share to this end.

It just doesn't work that way anymore, especially when you take out the truly remunerative occupations (physician, engineer, etc.) that actually have a hope in hell of paying back a mountain-sized student loan.

A bachelor's degree in most liberal arts won't pay you back a million dollars these days. I doubt it ever did.
