OH SHIT! Someone wished me "Merry Christmas" today! I emerged from the tussle unscathed, but ...

now I'm left to wonder. I didn't pay much attention to their facial affect when they spoke; nor did I analyze the nuance or vocal intonation of their greeting. Have I been victimized and don't even know it?
FUCK! I hate it when that happens!

when someone says "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Hanukkah" or "Happy Solstice" I reply in like back to them. I've noticed I've been getting a lot more happy solstice's the past couple of years.

They were simply being nice.

But in some areas, thanks to the Fox News' fake War on Christmas, some feel the need to defend their Christianity.

And the manner in which they do so, is to increase their emotional tone.

Try this for a week. Before the person at the store says anything, you say "Happy Holidays". There is a good chance that by doing so, you will anger a couple folks who will respond with an angry "Merry Christmas". They will have been insulted by your "Happy Holidays".

These people are not the majority, but they are out there.

Some people's protestations that such things never happen seem to be a bit more vehement than necessary when it comes to this topic. I suspect there are more than a few who approve of the behavior of the Fox News/RW Radio Christmas Warriors.

I don't begrudge people who say it that way. It's not a big deal, but it's just not my thing. I feel better saying Merry Christmas and I refuse to let fucking Bill O'Reilly ruin that for me. Letting a Republican tell you how to be a better Christian is a little bit like taking relationship advice from OJ Simpson.

who feel that have to tell me on every work email to "Have a Blessed Day," all year long. Working for a STATE agency I 1000% prefer a separation of church and state.

I am not religious at all but sometimes I would like to come back with a typical non-Christian response just to hear the sound of crickets afterwards.

the Christian perspective. Work emails in a state agency can be considered official records and, should not, have any reference to any type of religion - separation of Church and State.

What about the date?? You do know what that is a reference to, right?

Get on with your life and quit fussing over ignorant shit.

When someone wishes me a Merry Christmas, I just smile and wish them the same. In these difficult times I honestly do wish that most people find some enjoyment in the winter holiday season.

I don't worry a lot about their motivations as I have a lot more important things to worry about. I would be concerned if they wished me a shitty Christmas.
