Petition: Create single-payer healthcare system

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/create-single-payer-healthcare-system-betterment-american-citizens-businesses-which-will-lower-costs/DZgQ863V

Advantages of single payer: Single-payer is cheaper because it cuts out the middle man, i.e., the corporate execs who skim money off the top for their outsized pay packages. Single-payer will allow younger, healthier people to buy into Medicare. Personally, I'd propose Medicare Part E (for everybody).
Wealthier individuals can still buy supplemental health insurance on the private market.

Disadvantages: the relentless propaganda campaign funded and run by self-centered billionaires (whose names shall not be mentioned) who think health care is a privilege afforded only to the fat cats and their kittens.

I agree. Unfortunately, I suspect just like Medicare, you'd almost have to buy supplemental Hoyt Dec 2012 #2

insurance. I also think most of us would not find the premiums drop by more than 10% or so unless the government really cracks down on provider payments and even patients (who demand latest costly drugs, over proven cheaper meds, etc.).

I'm not against any of that and would be fine with it. But there will be a lot of whining all around except from those of us who remember struggling to keep our families insured.

Best we can hope for in short-run is probably a public option, and some serious non-profit plans.
