Take That Nigger Off The TV, We Wanna Watch Football!: Idiots Respond To NBC Pre-Empting Sunday Night Football
Timothy Burke
NBC pre-empted the first quarter of tonight's 49ers-Patriots game to show President Obama's speech at the Newtown memorial for victims of the Sandy Hook shooting. As you might expect, many football fans didn't take kindly to this. (So, too, some Bob's Burgers fans.) Here are those idiots, led by someone who claims to be a Division II football player in the state of Alabama. [Update: UNA says he's no longer a member of the team.]

(12,606 posts)I believe that we have always been this way. The problem is that every once and a while the bile and hatred seeps to the surface to expose itself: a septic souffle.
Humans are really poetically ignorant.

(15,036 posts)From Jay Carney, the White House press secretary, released this statement: "Tomorrow evening the president will travel to Newtown, CT to meet with the families of those who were lost and thank first responders. The president will also speak at an interfaith vigil for families of the victims as well as families from Sandy Hook Elementary scheduled for 7PM EST. More details will be released as they are available."

(90,714 posts)I was tuned in on my way home from a Christmas concert, and NPR said he and the families had some alone time beforehand. Until I got home and for some time after, there were lots of interfaith clergy speaking. A rabbi, a Muslim cleric and his young son, two Bahai, Methodists, Lutherans, a Catholic monsignor, and so on. The rabbi was speaking while I was on the freeway and it just about undid me. Anyway it looks like Newton has a good strong interfaith alliance there.
As for the President, I urge you to listen to the entirety of his speech/prayer if you can. As I've said elsewhere, it was like watching a man walk a tightrope without a safety net. Very, very gutsy. There was silence -- sobs -- a standing ovation. He "went there" and spoke the truth about this great evil that besets us.

(2,670 posts)At the beginning of the broadcast they said when the president came on the game would switch to cnbc and nbc sports during the speech. Second point as big of a football fan as I am he'll I played the game from Peewee to 1 year college but there was a tragedy a mass loss of life that's more important than a game.

(135,425 posts)spare a moment to listen to one of the world's most influential leaders? Those aren't all caucasians and asians on that football field, not by a long shot.
I get annoyed when Jeopardy gets pre-empted by a bunch of moronic turds stuffed into three piece suits, huddled around a glass table talking SPORRRRRRRTS!!!!!!!!! during pre-game shows, but I don't engage in racist invective because of it.

(17,651 posts)What that idiot said made absolutely no sense whatsoever.
And I don't even want to get into what his team mates may have thought of his little commentary. I'm sure he has quite a few black folk sharing his field.

We are already desensitized to these shootings. Most Americans are ready to move on with their lives and watch their football games.

(188 posts)I think NBC made the right call in breaking away. That speech was way more important then any game. If you were too stupid to figure out where the game was after they told us six times - I have no sympathy. Both my wife and I thought the speech very well done. Then the game picked up and became the match that was advertised.
