Spot large windows and check that they unlock.
Run like a bastard if there's no lockable solid core door room.
Hiders under desks are easy victims, according to our active shooter plan.

...or the media for reporting it ... or the lack of mental health facilities. When people begin to fear being in public places, especially places where profits are made, it will change. And yes, it may mean some new alphabet federal agency like the TSA or FEMA to replace the NRA and the KKK. But it will happen, and high time.

I remember my shock travelling in Barcelona back in the late 70s as a card-carrying pacifist, and rounding a corner as a pedestrian and found myself face to face with a soldier and a gun pointed at about 45 degrees. Not at me, but definitely ready for action at a moment's notice. It was culture shock, but in my mind's eye I now see how maybe they got there.

There may be multiple shooters; theater on lock down and witnesses being questioned. One man with rifle but may not have been alone.

their comments way before media picked it up. Of course tweets may not be accurate but it's just a matter of time before MSM picks up the news and starts reporting/confirming.

48. So going over this logically, let us say that a parent and a couple of kids go to the mall to shop
Mon Dec 17, 2012, 01:59 AM
Dec 2012

Parent is carrying...open or concealed doesn't matter. Gunshsots ring out...parent's first thought is to get the kids to safety...not to whip out his gun and start firing, even if he can see who the shooter is. That is everyone's first thought. But say the kids are now behind a trash can or in a shop. So legal gun owner sets out to do what he's carrying a gun to do ... protect himself and others. What does he do, shoot into the crowd and hope to hit the shooter and not someone else, too? That's manslaughter. Or he injures someone, that's a lawsuit and could cost him everything. It's just not as simple as draw and shoot.

The school situation ... perhaps if the Principal had been trained, but did she have time to go get her gun before he was already in a classroom crowd of kids and adults...now what...shoot him in the back...what if she injuries a child in the process? This is why lots of people don't want to own guns and take our chances, myself included.
