She is absolutely one of the most tasteless, clueless people I have ever heard about. Makes me wonder how she got so much power over our public schools. I guess she was allowed to do so because no one took a stand against her bullying of teachers and everyone else.
How dare she say such a thing and exploit that tragedy like that. Here is the paragraph that is just unfeeling and rude.
But events like these also strengthen our resolve to do exactly that -- improve schools for children and thereby improve entire communities. The entire StudentsFirst organization -- including the members of our team in Connecticut -- recommit ourselves to that mission today, as we pause to send our thoughts and prayers to those affected in Newtown. Statement by Michelle Rhee on Sandy Hook
proud2BlibKansan posted about it earlier, but it got very little attention. It needs more attention since this Rhee lady has spent most of the last four years ridiculing teachers. No one has told her to stop. In fact Arne Duncan has praised her.
Michelle Rhee's statement on tragedy at Sandy Hook
Notice how she not only fails to mention the teachers, several of whom DIED while protecting their children, and she adds a plug for her organization?
Think I am kidding about the ridicule directed by her and her group, Students First, toward public schools and teachers? Here is the video that group put out to defend their offensive ad during the Olympics. The original ad and the 2nd insulting ad are shown in the link below the video.

(83,785 posts)...believe that ridicule and humiliation work for their purpose.
Yup I sure think that says it all!
Michelle Rhee...you are an asshole beyond compare!

Good grief. This makes me really mad.

(88,117 posts)It really is pretty bad for her to play her political education games with them at this horrific time.

(14,087 posts)Gawd. Tasteless doesn't even begin to touch this, and that community has been through REAL tragedy, not a political drama party.

(16,375 posts)The one thing in the descriptions of Sandy Hook Elementary School that stood out most to me is that it sounds like a GREAT school in every conceivable way, with a wonderful curriculum, nurturing environment and exemplary teachers and staff.
But then it's glaringly obvious that Rhee wouldn't know what truly high quality schools look like.

(88,117 posts)Their community and schools sound good, and not in need of Rhee's advice.

(43,049 posts)Who would expect a beautiful Latina in her twenties to keep such a clear head to hide her kids in the closet and then send the killer down the hall.
I would-- because I've known many Latinas like her and they make the world a better place. I cried because her good sense and courage are now gone. I cried because a wonderful life was snuffed out just as it was beginning to show its voice.
And I am angry that this Rhee person is using the heroism and sacrifice shown by her and others at that school for her own purposes.

(43,049 posts)which is interesting because I almost never use DU mail.
Keep up the good work and you'll beat those numbers-- DU is going through one of its ugly stages, and any minute now you'll be swarmed over something you thought was no big deal.

(88,117 posts)that's interesting indeed. I just checked and I cautiously started posting middle of Nov, mostly in December.
It really upsets me that this lady has so much power over our public education system. It's not healthy.

(900 posts)If her organization had some kind of mental health or school safety component, maybe it would be (barely) appropriate. But what PR person told her this statement was a good idea?

(88,117 posts)She seems to have no sense of the appropriate. Other "reformers" are pretty rude also.
