The bizarre "logic" of Mike Huckabee

So let me get this straight; this shooting happened because we've removed God from our schools.

But wait, I thought God is everywhere. Omnipotent. But he was powerless to stand up for himself? He created the universe and sees all, etc., but he got kicked out of school? I thought God is in your heart, so wouldn't he still have been in school after all?

Huckabee goes on to mention that people ask him "Where was God in Newtown?" He posits that God was in the hearts of the teachers who shielded the children. He was in their tears.

Wait again...so God WAS there, but he chose to allow 28 women and children to be gunned down while he hung out "in their tears?" Really? And you worship this dude?

And people wonder why I gave up on the God thing years ago.

In the early 00s, when he was making presidential runs, he had to reign in the crazy a little bit to appeal to a larger audience. These days, safely ensconced in his own bubble-world/echo chamber, he can just let his mouth run without much consideration.

(Protestant) fundamentalism (and the fundies) and you'll find a lively and pronounced anti-Roman Catholic tradition that sees RC as illegitimate. The Ku Klux Klan back in the 20s built some of its appeal around a campaign against 'Romanism,' IIRC. Actually, the sentiment probably dates back to Luther and Calvin or the 30 Years War a 100 years later.

God, the omniscient and all powerful would have stopped the shooter on Friday except that the school was a God exclusion zone, so of course God stayed away.

That's the logic here.

How about this: God is an evil, sadistic bastard who delights in the brutal murder of innocents. THAT'S the conclusion I would draw from this most recent incident were I inclined to believe in an omniscient and all powerful God.

If there IS a "God" - we of independent thoughts have to wonder..... how DOES God like being used as a pawn? How does God feel about mere mortals second guessing his motives and means??? Seems this would be great theme for a stand-up comic's routine! And it WOULD BE FUNNY - funny if I didn't have to live by the silly rituals these god-fearers devise to try and please thier pawn. GAH!

"If religion didn't exist, we would have to make one up."
People in power and wealth use their religion to hide behind and justify their actions. If they(get caught) screw up? They publicly "confess to God" and of course, only being a mortal, born into sin, they must be forgiven. It is also a great way to manipulate people and let them know that if they were better Christians (insert one) that they too would be wealthy...and the less fortunate believe it. IDK, seems like another scam.

Christianity: Sending telepathic messages to a Jewish ghost letting him know that you will accept him as your master and ask him to remove a magical curse that was passed down to you because a woman who was made from the rib of her partner ate a piece of magical fruit from a magical tree because a talking snake told her to.

Riiight.

Ask me again why I'm an atheist.
