The United States has by far the highest per capita rate of all developed countries. According to data compiled by the United Nations, the United States has four times as many gun-related homicides per capita as do Turkey and Switzerland, which are tied for third. The U.S. gun murder rate is about 20 times the average for all other countries on this chart. That means that Americans are 20 times as likely to be killed by a gun than is someone from another developed country.

(20,899 posts)2. Americans gladly accept the 20 times as likely to be killed by a gun for the joys of living in a
right-wing society as evidenced by the electorate who return to office the right-wing bastards who espouse: income inequality; an unfair tax system; laizze-faire governance; governance of, by, and for special interests rather than we the people and promoting the general welfare; low minimum wages; long incarceration for minor drug offenses; the failure to provide for universal health care; the neglect of public health, the infrastructure, and all quality of life factors in order to feed the MIC in the reach for global hegemony.

We have 4x the homicide of China, Australia, and more than 4x the rate for Switzerland, where most men do own guns -- but can't buy ammo.
