Nine appalling gun laws backed by the right wing
The corporate-funded American Legislative Exchange Council works hand-in-glove with the National Rifle Association
By Alex Kane, Alternet

... there’s another group working hand-in-glove with the NRA that deserves scrutiny: the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). ALEC, the Koch Brothers-backed group that is funded by big corporate interests, first attracted attention in the wake of the Trayvon Martin killing. The group, which brings together corporate interests, right-wing lobbyist groups and conservative politicians, passes model legislation that politicians take back ready-made to their state. The NRA has funded ALEC and co-chaired ALEC’s “Public Safety and Election Task Force,” which passes model bills on guns.

By way of the Center for Media and Democracy’s ALEC Exposed project, Digby’s Hullabaloo blog posted links to some of the model legislation on guns the group is pushing. Here are 9 of the awful gun bills ALEC wants to bring to a state near you.

1. Guns on Campus

Dubbed the “Campus Personal Protection Act,” this model legislation would allow handguns to be carried on campus. The ALEC bill would also “limit” regulations that the governing boards of colleges imposed on the carrying of guns on campus.

The bill is part of a wave of “concealed carry” gun laws that have passed around the nation–some with ALEC’s help ....

They passed the laws to keep guns out of schools because it sounded like a great idea. It was hooked onto the laws that also protected court rooms and other government buildings. These other government buildings are mostly guarded by armed security or LEO. The schools are not.

The incidence of armed attacks in the courts and other government buildings went down. The rate of armed attacks on schools went way up.

The schools before this legislation had no problem with shooters killing our children. After these laws were put in place we have had way too many cases of our children being murdered while at school.

When you take these facts into account it is very easy to see what we did with the laws did not work as intended. Exactly the opposite happened.

Hiding your head in the sand and ignoring the facts does not protect our children. These no gun zones at the schools have not protected our children. These laws have just made it safer for deranged people to come and kill as many kids as they can before they take their own lives.

laws are nothing more than words on paper that people are supposed to obey. When mentally deranged people choose not to obey those laws there is nothing to protect our children.

What we have done has not worked and these dead kids are huge proof of it. We need to do something else.

And flooding went up after it started raining. At least we can say rains did cause the floods. But, violence did not go up in school because of legislation. Legislation responded to the rise in violence.

Laws have NOT made it safer for deranged people to kill!

NRA press office?

Laws were passed to keep guns out of schools to stop kids and psychotic staff pulling guns on each other, which was happening with monotonous regularity.

Next you produce a fine argument for spending money on professional armed guards in schools, oh and since 9-11 have you tried bringing a weapon into a public building like an airport? Please try - and get somebody to film the cavity search, I need the laugh.

Next you decide to spread a lie:

The schools before this legislation had no problem with shooters killing our children. After these laws were put in place we have had way too many cases of our children being murdered while at school.

Check the frequency of school shooting beck to the '50s, moron.

You warble something about taking facts into account but seem entirely unacquainted with facts.

If mentally deranged people have access to guns then they have a way of killing more people.

As to your last, the Australian experience gives the lie to your mass murder apologetics.
