It's not the guns or mental illness - it is our fear everything/end of the world culture...

being promoted by the Republicans and that we are living in a world where everyone needs to arm themselves and defend themselves, and rise up against the world however they can.

Guns don't kill people, that's true, ACCESS to guns for people who are encouraged to rise up agains the world is the problem and the people promoting these ideas want to make it easier and easier for the people listening to them who are easily influenced to rise up for their beliefs.

Mental illness does not cause someone to kill a room full of children in a spray of bullets!! Teaching someone with mental illness that we are in the end times and that the government is trying to get you, and the economy is going to collapse and we're all going to have to fight to survive is what causes someone with mental illness to want to kill people.

I'm not sure why so many here are blaming guns and mental illness when the finger should be directly pointed at the Republicans who put targets on our peaceful politicians and laugh about it, the ones who are building bunkers in their back yards and buying the 160 meal ration crate at Costco, the ones who make money by pushing people to buy gold because our economy is on the brink of collapse, etc.

I HOLD THEM DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE and THIS BEHAVIOR OF manipulating people and brainwashing them with lies HAS TO STOP!!

Ask a Rush Limbaugh or Bill O'Reilly listener where they get their news - they'll say from Rush Limbaugh or Bill O'Reilly!! They actually think these entertainers are a news source. Yet, these "news sources" are constantly putting violent, end of the world thoughts into the heads of our most vulnerable citizens and they are increasingly coming forward to act on these thoughts in horrific ways.

Ok, rant over. I'm just sick of us not looking at the real problem here. It's the same as it's been for years now, and it just keeps increasing.

Guns are a bigger factor in the equation, but our culture of fear is astounding, and definitely a part of it.

Republicans have turned this into the wild west. As a result, some gun owners (even on here) are saying they need their guns to protect themselves (against other people with guns). Guns pervade our society. As a result, we live in a sort of war zone.

Go look at Fox, all they do is push Fear of this country or Loathing of this race of people. It's all negative and it's all an attempt to make people feel like they are under attack from "they", "them", "those people". You know what, when people are pushed to that point some crawl under the blankets and dont leave their bed, others arm themselves in a fit of violent paranoia to "get them" first.

Their coming for your guns, war on christmas, fema camps, death panels, the gays are gonna get your kids, they dont want god in schools, baby killers........ Of course it's about Fear and Loathing and getting them before they get you, but first a word from our sponsor about buying gold coins to survive the coming fiscal apocalypse.

from chaos and mayhem. If we want to order our society again, we need to expose the corruption beneath and quit buying what they sell.

Not saying that everything started then...but 9/11 was like hitting the nitrous button on our culture of fear (and fearmongering). The media makes a fortune off of it, and the Republicans gain political power from it (and unfortunately, so do some Democrats).

I realize this will sound odd coming from a feminist woman, but putting gender politics aside for a sec, MAN THE FUCK UP, AMERICA!

The mother was a doomsday freak. Was she also a FOX news watcher or christian end of the world prophecy nut? Add that up with the predictions of doom if Obama was re-elected and the approaching Mayan doomsday date. Throw in all the crap from channels that are suppose to be "learning" channels like TLC, Discovery, NatGeo and the History channel and you can imagine the atmosphere in the home this kid was living in.
