My wife was beaten and robbed several years ago so she now has a CHL, she vows that if it ever happens again, at least she will have a fighting chance to defend herself.
I think that the procedures for obtaining a CHL need to be more stringent, but a Fed. ban, no.

And nothing in the Constitution grants the federal government the power to ban them, therefore it is a state powers issue.

whoa whoa whoa.....seriously? lets rewind for a moment. ok. so whats the point of a gun? to give someone power. be it power over an animal or someone else. With CCL you at least level the playing field. Now both people have the same amount of power. See by going after CCL you are targeting the wrong person. The person who is harming others is not going to go out and get a CCL so he can legally carry. thats pointless as he is breaking the law with murder. CCL grants good law abiding people the power to fight back. And an all out ban on weapons is a terrible idea as well. Look at history. Namely the prohibition (not about guns but the principal was the same). We tried to ban alcohol. Did it go away? NO! People made it themselves or criminals sold it and became very powerful and rich. what do you think will happen with guns?? Do you honestly think the next person to do this would decide not to because its illegal to own or carry a weapon? no he will find another way to get it. But now instead of having a pistol or semi auto rifle (or the all feared assault rifle...which will do the exact same thing as any other gun) he will be able to get fully automatic rifles or worse because the market is now for all illegal weapons not just guns. By taking away CCL or guns in general all you are doing is taking my power to defend myself and more importantly my family. you wont be hindering the 'bad guy'. Honestly i support full out open carry of any and all semi auto weapons (pistols, assault rifles, shotguns any). Because then everyone can be armed and no one has more power than anyone else. Someone would be less likely to fire 1 round when ten will come back. And they can be stopped before the massacre begins. Just remember in all of this...guns are not evil. people are. i am not bad because i have a gun at home. Anything can be used to harm people (knives, cars, martial art weapons, bows anything) but no one wants to ban them. please do not go after the tool for the persons mistake. others use that tool for good.

oh and one last thing. i don't know why every one targets assault rifles. They are semi automatic rifles. There's nothing special about them except they look scary. you can do just as much damage with a hunting rifle. And the whole 30 round mags?? thats dumb. If you read the files from Newtown most of the magazines that were found were only half empty if that...thats only 10-15 rounds. so even with a 10 round law it wouldn't have helped. please do not label me as someone who is trying to make that situation look better to defend the AR. That was an unspeakable act. and the reason i want a CCL. If that ever happens around me i want to be ready for it. Guns are a big responsibility that are of ten abused. but don't take it out on those who don't.
