Not exactly a bright spot, I guess, but more of an interesting incident.

I'm the executive director of a small local nonprofit dedicated to advocacy and improving the lives of people with developmental disabilities, many of whom also suffer from mental illness.

This morning, I got a phone call from a very nice lady wanting to volunteer and asking what she could do to help.

Granted, I've only been doing this job for a month, but this is my first *new* volunteer.

While we all look for solutions to the bigger problem, we could do worse than follow her example.

All politics is local.
