I cannot imagine the private weapon arsenals built up across the US

They must be formidable, and I guarantee the purchasing is only going to increase because of fear of more regulation.

God forbid there is a combined effort at terror, like the Mumbai hotel attack.

ON EDIT ADD
I compete in major matches with competitors from all walks of life; Olympic champions, world champions, politicians, physicians, dentists, lawyers, factory workers, utility workers, farmers, etc. and it makes me mad that ignorant people with more hate than sense lump all of us who possess firearms together into some hated group.

There will always by the "audiophile" in the bunch. Difference is, music hasn't been known to kill several people per minute.

As someone pointed out in a recent OP, the gun magazines in the supermarket where she was shopping were put down at kid level.

Other than killing people and animals guns really serve no more purpose than do golf balls or hockey pucks. I guess you could use some pistols as a clumsy sort of hammer.

I used to be culturally pro gun, qualified Sharpshooter in the Marines a great many years ago, then I saw Bowling for Columbine and it shifted me to kind of a neutral position.

This latest school shooting hits too close to home for me, I have three grandkids just a little older than those who were slaughtered the other day and I keep seeing their dear bodies torn to shreds by that poor tortured maniac with blood spattered around like an episode of Dexter.

They need to go, America needs to grow up.

I really get the impression that a lot of pro gun folks don't get just how hard this incident has hit people who have no direct connection to this tragedy, our children, our grandchildren, our nieces, our nephews, our future lying in a pool of congealing blood.

And then we have a paid author on the pro gun side, a woman in fact, tell us that our children should be trained to engulf the shooter in a human wave. I have a hard time thinking of a comment that could have been more callous and inhumane.

Not a single strong pro gunner came in to comment.

The French in WWI pretty much established that mass charging of automatic weapons was a suboptimal tactic, evidently today's pro gun advocates have yet to enter the twentieth century in terms of tactical acumen.

Not pro gunners apparently.

And don't play semantic games, I know you're smarter than that and I knew exactly what I was saying.

One little boy was shot what, eleven times?

As near automatic as makes no difference given the disparity in capabilities of the shooter and the victims.

I love the john waynes of America with their arsenals. Let see these broke dicks go up against the m-1 abrams tank, m-2 bradley, apache, blackhawk helicopters and a-10 warthogs and survive. It aint going to happen, they will fold up like a cheap sofa bed.
