(1,922 posts)I was the one who told California Peggy and she posted it here.
Colin was probably the most remarkable person I have ever known.
I should post this thing I wrote about him, but it would get lost in the Crazy that this place has become.

(1,922 posts)I did not know how.
Colin (Redstone) and Wiley White (Wiley50) crossed over within a few weeks of one another.
I am probably the only person who knew them both.
Maybe, when all of this gun-crazy has ebbed, I will post something about those two unique Humans.

(1,922 posts)I believe I am the only person who was close (personal, life experience) to both of them.
And you are 1000% correct, those were two amazing people. Both were The Real Deal.

(47,537 posts)I did not know of his passing. I think that, at least in 2010, he posted most on the Lounge, reporting about going in and out of the hospital and I admired his courage facing these difficulties medical problems.
But I remember his kindness and support in 2006 during a contentious fight on DU. You were a principled, loyal gentleman. I hope that you really are in peace, free of the pain and agony that plagued you in the last years of your too short life.

"And, in the end, no matter how lonely you may feel, remember this: Because you are a DUer, you are never alone.
You're one of us."

(1,922 posts)I would not be in the least surprised if he is watching, right now.
Making that phone call to you was one of the hardest things - in a long list of hard things - that I have ever done. I was thinking about that just this morning.
Merry Christmas, Peg,

(9,654 posts)Both of my parents died this year, less than six months apart. My Dad died on the 14th of this month.
I am sitting here in their house, now mine, and it is so empty and quiet. To say I feel sad is an understatement.
Reading Redstone's post literally filled me with hope for the future. If he could go through, and get through,
all that he did, then I can handle this. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to post this.
I bookmarked it. I will be reading it often.
And to Redstone, bless your soul. You just helped another DU'er, even from the great beyond.

(8,554 posts)It's simply a beautiful tribute for him and what a message he gave us all.
I think my favorite post of Redstone's was the Italian Flag thread but as someone else mentioned upthread, that time he posted the picture of a whole bunch of Redstone's busy at various different tasks, all about a room (with the most gorgeous wood floor I've ever seen) was a true work of art.
Missing him and so many others who are now gone from DU.
Peace.

(27,985 posts)I really, really, really needed to read that this morning. For a holiday I have denied as my own most of my adult life, I am spending the first Christmas morning away from my son in 11 years and I ache. The choices I made were the right choices but sometimes the pain dims the hope. It's amazing and precious to me that you allowed Redstone to speak to us again, and especially to me, today.
It will not be a happy holiday for me this year, but I will have faith and I will survive and later, I will thrive. I really needed this reminder today.
