Pics) Look At All These Guns People Got for Christmas

I weep for America's soul.....
That increase in gun sales following the Newtown shooting might have had a little bit to do with Christmas season, as a lot of people are flaunting their new firearms on social media today, a trend first-noticed by The Verge's T.C. Sottek. As the AR-15 is a popular rifle of choice these days both for consumers and murderers, we decided to take a look at all the brand-new owners of that make of semi-automatic. Some have suggested the increase in sales had to do with fears that gun control will soon take these makes off the shelves. Or maybe all the talk about Bushmaster and guns inspired these Christmas gifts. No matter the motivation, as Sottek notes, the "sales boost appears to have manifested under the Christmas tree." And, thanks to Instagram, we get to see that manifestation, as these new owners post photos of their new toys on the Internet today. So without further ado, we present pictures of people standing in front of Christmas tress with their brand new guns.

couldn't post pics, they are so creepy & offensive, this is truly a sick society. We are the silent majority, and must speak up.

Besides the usual reason for the Precious-stroking (abject pants-wetting terror at facing the world without a gun), the Delicate Flowers also have four more years of somebody they've been ordered to hate (Obama) in charge.

My father taught me to shoot, and was very serious about instilling the basics of gun safety. I was taught to always treat a gun as if it were loaded; never ever under any circumstances point a gun at another person, even as a joke, always make sure the barrel was pointing at the ground with my finger off the trigger when carrying, and to never chamber a round until ready to fire (at targets, at first, although I was taught to hunt later). I'd kind of like to think I was trained to be responsible. And I don't really, honestly, think there was anything "creepy" about it. (And I do favour reasonable restrictions on firearms, personally.)

same gun used in the slaughter of little children in Newtown.
As I said in the above post, more than creepy....
This country has a ((serious)) problem with people in the mental health department as well with the culture of violence.

The connection between THEIR weapons and tragedies like we have experienced -- and for good reason. There are hundreds-of-millions of guns in this country, and only a small percentage are ever used in any violent crime, let alone in some mass murder. There are about 50 million gun owning families in America, including a good number who read and post here. They are not all psychopaths, they just like guns.

Some of these folks got guns for Christmas and they are happy about it. That's all it means. They aren't sipping Egg Nog out of puppy skulls, they are holding up their VERY expensive Christmas presents and enjoying the day. And that's all.

If this issue were easy we would have solved it decades ago, but it's not. And we cannot even begin to solve it until we stop demonizing the average folks on both sides of things. Until we manage that much no real progress is going to be made. Before we can talk we have to stop yelling.

Only from the other side.

His father is just a big redneck. This is the LAST kid you would want to have a gun. My husband and I are now in a quandary over my daughter going to their house.

And none of those people look responsible enough to have a gun. What could go wrong?

ever read this? yes, he said he didn't believe it would work, that was 9 years ago. and umpteen massacres ago.

he said he personaly would give up a frivolous weapon, and i say he might think it would work today considering how f'd up we are about guns in the present

Salon.com: Yes, I understand you're a gun enthusiast, to put it euphemistically. But do you support more restrictive gun laws? Do you support a ban on assault weapons?

HST: I have one or two of those, but I got them before they were illegal. In that case, if I were sure that any tragedies and mass murders would be prevented, I'd give up my assault rifle.
But I don't really believe that. Do I have any illegal weapons? No. I have a .454 magnum revolver, which is huge, and it's absolutely legal. One day I was wild-eyed out here with Johnny Depp, and we both ordered these guns from Freedom, Wyo., and got them the next day through FedEx. Mainly, I have rifles, pistols, shotguns; I have a lot of those. But everything I have is top quality; I don't have any junk weapons. I wouldn't have any military weapon around here, except as an artifact of some kind. Given Ashcroft and the clear blueprint of this administration to make everything illegal and everything suspicious -- how about suspicion of being a terrorist sympathizer? Goddamn, talk about filling up your concentration camps. But, yeah, my police record is clean. This is not a fortified compound.

edit: and if you read his sig it actually describes what is going on right now. odd coincidence, no?

What about Easter? Easter is about death (OK, the Resurrection, but never mind). What better time to buy a gun? We could have two gun buying seasons. One to celebrate the birth of Christ and the second to see if this resurrection thingie actually works!
