Rumor was floating around the Fall last year that the progressive station there was going to switch to sports Jan 1. Actually, it began back in November(now that brain cells kicked into gear) after the election when Portland lost KPOJ.
Has that happened yet?
Did Clear Channel kill our voice there?
Just wondering.

(2,682 posts)I turned it on for about 30 seconds this morning, found some sports chatter and then turned it off, permanently. It is a serious loss to progressives in western Washington. I have seen information that another station, KBCS in Bellevue, will pick up the Thom Hartman show from noon to 3. A station near Tacoma is apparently picking up something else, but for me (north of Seattle), the signal is so low that I can't even get it on my car radio.
It is a personal loss to me as I don't have and can't afford the new technologies to get XM or other radio service. My computer is in a corner of the garage and therefore not listenable from the rest of the house. I'll be relying more and more on MSNBC and Current. I've just read that Current has been sold and most of the programming will be replaced by the new owner, Al Jazzera.
It's become more and more difficult to hear progressive voices.

It's a community radio station so most of the programming is music but they do have some progressive public affairs programs.

(2,682 posts)Stephanie Miller, Ed Shultz, Norman Goldman, etc., etc., I've become accustomed to the personalities, not just the information. It's like having old friends move away.
And, I know I'll get flack for this statement, it has seemed to me that NPR has lost a great deal of its sting. I don't find it all that interesting and haven't listened to it in quite some time. With the demise of KPTK, I'll have to give NPR another chance, I suppose. Thank you for reminding me of KUOW.

(62,683 posts)It would be wonderful if a new Air America could be established. You'd think with Obama's second win, how things appear to be going, there would be a market.
I'm sad, too.

(2,397 posts)Sorry to hear the bad news. But please believe me if I say we can't let ourselves get rolled over like this. I mean, if a dude knocks you down, you get back up. Same principle. But the good news is we have Bernie Sanders in our corner on this. I think he is planning to bite back on this to undo corporate media. But we need strength in numbers. We can't lie down on this. At least Clear Channel thinks we may be lying down. I'm not. What about you?
