There is NO way I would shoot a student. I would shield myself infront of my kids, protect them

but no way would I shoot one.

I am a teacher and I would NEVER be armed at school. There is no way any true teacher would ever consider shooting a student even if that student were shooting in the classroom. We would do all we could to protect our students but that includes ALL students

I would do anything to protect my students. Hopefully that would never require lethal force. I wouldn't have a gun with me though, so shooting back wouldn't be an option.

and as much as it pains me I probably would shield a student. Not being a hero just the instinct to protect the young. I think it is hard wired. But, that being said I can't be certain if given the chance I wouldn't take a shooter down. But, I wouldn't have a gun so I have no idea how that would happen, I am not an action hero.

but my main concern would be to protect the innocent. Whatever happens to a perp isn't quite as important to me. I would hope the situation could be resolved without anyone getting injured first and foremost. But, if that isn't possible my second priority would be to have as little harm done as possible. If that means all I have is a chair to throw at the shooter so be it there will be a chair or whatever thrown at his/her head.

If somehow I were armed, and had the presence of mind to not be freaking out, I'd shoot someone who was shooting at other people, whether the shooter were a student or not.

Simply standing in the way is only likely to add one more fatality, not save the person you're protecting, unless the shooter just happened to be down to one last bullet, and that bullet wasn't powerful to go through two people.

You position is understandable, but I don't think it's particularly heroic or commendable.

I can not imagine being the parent of a child in a school where teachers were being coerced to do so.

Gawd/goddess help us all if we can't find a way out of this insanity.

The NRA would like to arm teachers, but really, what teacher wants to try to kill a student? And what students want teachers that are packing? Talk about a culture of violence.

You made that decision for you... Whoopie...

Some other "true" teachers would shoot, stab, stomp, tackle, drop a soda machine on an attacker to save lives. They are just as pure as you are...

to make that mental switch - from looking at a person as a student to realizing they're a murderer who's trying to kill all the other students and you. It would be a horrific thing to have to do, akin to a parent realizing their child is a murderer.

Personally, I think it wouldn't work well for most teachers. Even if the teacher really wanted to protect the others and had no qualms about firearms and self defense issues, etc, I believe there would be hesitation. And hesitation when you have a firearm, in the face of a person who is armed and has no hesitation, is deadly every single time. Therefore, it's useless at best. At worst it gets you killed. But beforehand it prevents teachers from making other workable escape plans, because they may believe they could handle it.

So, I'm glad you know you couldn't do it. Personally, I wouldn't send my kids to a school with armed teachers. No way in hell. As it is, I had to give a police officer or 2 a piece of my mind while my boys were growing up. That was enough armed confrontation for me regarding my children, tyvm.
