Restaurant owner gives lesbian couple anti-LGBT letter ‘out of love’

By Stephen C. Webster
Friday, January 11, 2013 11:52 EST

A lesbian couple in New Bern, North Carolina said that the owner of the Stingray Cafe passed them an anti-gay letter as they left the eatery recently, which he says was “out of love.”

Restaurant owner Ed McGovern gave the letter to Ariel and Shawnee McPhail on December 4, according to ABC affiliate WCTI-TV 12 in North Carolina. It asked that the couple “look at your life” and “see how it hurts everyone around you.”

“P.S. my daughter also was gay,” he reportedly wrote. “It destroyed her life and my grandson.”

The restaurant owner reportedly refused to explain himself to the media.

Same sex marriage is banned in North Carolina, where the prohibition was cemented into the state’s constitution after 61 percent of the voters backed an amendment in May.

This guy probably knows, deep down, that his bigotry is wrong but he can't admit it so he goes on the offensive.

"We love you in Christ, but we're also going to fight tooth and nail to make sure that you can never marry, adopt children, have a job (the One Million Moms campaign against Ellen), be listed as a protected class in hate crime legislation, and anything else we can think of. But remember- we love you!!!". Yeah, ok.

one comment made today -

"Don't go, this place serves shellfish which is a blatant affront to God. It's important to support godly business and not ones that such flagrantly and pridefully ignore biblical principles like the prohibition against eating shellfish that the bible is very clear about.

It's shameful that sinful businesses like these tear apart Godly communities with their sinful behavior with not one bit of shame."

I guess there is more than one way to go after the homophobs.

Hey, Bozo,

Maybe your daughter and grandson had difficult lives because you are an intolerant scumbag and you personally destroyed their lives.

I feel horrible for his daughter. The use of the past tense makes me wonder if she's dead.

by which I mean "get together enough LGBT activists and allies to fill the restaurant, proceed to fill the restaurant, then order a bunch of iced teas (or in this instance, "swite ties&quot and sip them ve-ry slow-ly while chanting 'Bigotry! Bigotry!'", like we used to do to Cracker Barrel in the early '90s when they were blatantly discriminating against LGBT employees.
