Supply side vs. demand side (gun thread, for those sick of them)

The gun debate is bringing this up for me. On most issues other than gun crime, Democrats favor demand-side solutions over supply-side solutions.

Drugs? Get users to treatment, so remove demand. Economics? Get money to workers, so increase demand.

The supply side drug response is to interdict drugs. The supply side economic plan is to get money to rich people.

But not with guns. Progressives for the most part favor a supply side answer to guns, while conservatives don't see a problem to begin with.

Is there a demand-side answer to gun violence? A way to make people want guns less to begin with?

associate them with weakness rather than strength...
ask families of gun owners which member of their family they thought would kill or be killed first.
show the victims and survivors....I think Gabby is wonderful.

being primarily driven by estrogen myself.
But gun nuttery is mostly a male thing, not a female thing.
And from what I've seen the female gun nuts are mostly trying to appeal to specific male gun nuts.

Facts could help with rationale people. But gun nuts are not rationale.
They are lost in their own fantasy world.

Back in the day, they were not half bad. Heck, they supported and help draft the bill for background checks.

They had an oportunity to step up and do something meaningful. However that speech Wayne Ass Hole gave; put the last nail in the coffin in my eyes.

Any time anyone says that we sould have a list of "certain" people, I cringe, as there is no good that will come of it. None.

Social pressure will stop people carrying guns if they are forced to open carry.

Mandatory time if you get caught with a concealed weapon, a year for a first offense should be adequate.

Make public expressions of "gun love" totally uncool.

Treat anyone who posts "gun love pictures" on public boards like DU the same as we treat those who post pictures of their penises.
