Far Right Poses As Much Danger To The U.S. As Radical Islam

The West Point think tank known as the Combating Terrorism Center has issued a paper on the dangers posed by the far right in this country, specifically people who espouse “civil activism, individual freedoms and self-government,” and says that these people tend to be anti-federalist, white supremacist, and fundamentalist in their views.

According to the paper, liberalism, including that which is seen in other developed nations, looks forward to the future, while conservative movements, especially those here, look backward and cling to an idealized version of history. They also hold a belief that the government is inherently tyrannical and given to intruding on civil and constitutional rights as much as they can. According to the paper, these people initiated 350 attacks in 2011.

One of the core issues with the extreme right is that while they espouse individual freedom and like to try and spread fear regarding the government’s activities, they also seem to believe in a type of authoritarianism—one of the very things they profess to loathe in government—that includes a strong resistance to authority from what they view as “outgroups,” namely blacks and women, unions, and more.

They also seem to view the Constitution as a static document, unchanging despite the way society has changed over the last 230 years, and want laws made and judges to rule based on the original intent of the document. Here’s the issue with that: When it comes to the 2nd Amendment (for example), the original intent of the amendment was to preserve slavery. The words, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State…” refer to the freedom of white men in the southern states to own slaves, and to police those slaves with their militias as they saw fit. The original intent was not to ensure the people’s freedom from a tyrannical government, which is what every gun-rights activist espouses today

right-wing extremist groups as the greatest threat to America, its people and government, a greater threat than posed by Islamic extremists. Yet, efforts to stem the threat posed by domestic right-wing extremist groups seem meager when considering $100s of billions are expended annually to thwart any world-wide threat posed by Islamic extremists. Something is badly out of kilter here, especially when considering that our government reportedly targeted, harassed, and crushed the Occupy Wall Street movement, seemingly proclaiming that left-wing protest/dissent against the oligarchs and plutocrats is not protected under the First Amendment or will not be tolerated notwithstanding its constitutionality.

movement ideology, left wing radicalism, black panthers carrying guns: we came perilously close to widespread revolution back then.

our owners have made sure that will never happen again.

that's why they brought back the plantation in full regalia.

there was a NW progressive AM station called AM 1090 that disappeared this new year. The reasoning was it was owned by NBC, CBS, which I forget and it, and was a "new market" try. So the station disappeared because it wasn't a "talk show format" and it wasn't making money, and they opted for a sports channel instead, of which there are now 3.

As I go through the channels now, the right wing is well represented with load and clear stations, with no opposing talk lineup.

WA, OR, maybe Idaho were all listening to this station. The audience was huge from the sense that I listened to it everyday and could the hear all the calls coming through. They couldn't go through the phones fast enough.

Now the speech and ideas have been silenced. Just another business decision?

They gave the station call letters to a minority organization. (I wonder if that is overseen by Clarence Thomas or Colin Powell.)

They recycled the antenna.

1310AM is now empty here in the Detroit area.

It was our ONLY liberal station.

These rabid rightwingers are not only left alone by the FBI but also aided and abetted by a complicit media with a rightwing agenda.

Destroying unions, waging war on women, minorities, and gays is convenient for the corporate fascists in order to keep us divided. The police state is also owned and controlled by the right, so there you are.

According to the study "nationalism" is the one common thread uniting far-right groups.

The study itself is at: http://www.ctc.usma.edu/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/ChallengersFromtheSidelines.pdf

If there is one ideological doctrine about which there is almost full consensus regarding its importance for understanding the far-right worldview, it is that of nationalism. Historically, the literature on nationalism has taken diverse directions and is extremely rich, but in its varying guises it usually refers to the association between ethnic, cultural and/or linguistic identity and political expression, or more simply put, the convergence of a cultural framework with a political entity.

In the context of the far-right worldview, nationalism takes an extreme form of full convergence between one polity or territory and one ethnic or national collective. Two elements are required for the fulfillment of this version of the nationalist doctrine. The first is that of internal homogenization, i.e., the aspiration that all residents or citizens of the polity will share the same national origin and ethnic characteristics. The second is the element of external exclusiveness, the aspiration that all individuals belonging to a specific national or ethnic group will reside in the homeland.

Internal homogenization (US) versus external exclusiveness (THEM).

You must be willing to accept that something wrong is occurring, to name it, to look it in the eye, to be willing to speak about it when its mere presence implies you can be questioned by police/feds; you must be willing to connect with others also outraged and willing to speak out about it, to take to the streets and march upon police stations and fusion centers and government sites, despite the increased possibility of attack and jail and being on all sorts of lists.

I had to go through several of these steps to get to the point where I'd be on the streets shouting, and willing to support any others who will do so.

I ride the buses in LA. I see the "Homeland Security and LAPD 'iWatch'" banners rather often. As an Occupier, I've seen the LA lieutenant who is in charge of Special Order 11, at an LAPD attack upon OccupyLA, and sneaking photos of OccupyLA afterward. I've posted about this here. Special Order 11 makes LAPD a tentacle of DHS. And DHS member Peter King calls Occupy "angry losers living in their own filth". Big surprise the camps were systematically attacked and cleared. :/
