For my 50,000th DU Post, I'd Like To

congratulate President Obama on the beginning of his second term in office.

Like many here, I worked to help him get elected in 2008, and again in 2012. We succeeded in doing that, and I'm hopeful that his second term will be a productive and dramatic one. His speech today contained many references to changes we've all been hoping for for a long time. He appears to be ready to propose and push measures that achieve a number of progressive goals.

I'm further encouraged by the group of 49 moderate Republicans who have already broken ranks with the Tea Party and people like Grover Norquist in voting for a positive measure in the House of Representatives. I see a change coming, due to the rejection of the right wing Tea Party agenda, and hope that we will see that same 49 voting with the Democrats on many measures that will be coming soon.

Further, I'm encouraged that we may be able to increase our majority in the Senate and perhaps get an actual majority in the House in 2014. I'll be working toward that goal for the next couple of years.

DU has a place in shaping Democratic politics, and I will continue to post here in an effort to help with that.

Thanks to all DUers for their efforts, even if we disagree at times about how to make things happen.

Remember that West Wing episode where Bartlet finally decided to step left of center and his approval rating went up?

This reminds me of that!
