It's not just Global Warming. It's Global Extremes
These are all values from YESTERDAY (Jan 25, 2013)
Source: http://www.wunderground.com/climate/local_extremes.asp?query=03038
Yesterday high extremes:
International
Rabbit Flat, Australia: 114 °F
Viooldrif, South Africa: 110 °F
Kununurra, Australia: 109 °F
U.S.
Alice, TX: 87 °F
Beeville, TX: 84° F
At the same time, low extremes:
International
Toko, Russia: -58° F (that is frickin' cold)
Selagoncy, Russia: -56° F
Olenex, Russia: -48° F
U.S.
Saranac Lake, NY: -18° F
Mt Washington, NH: -16° F
Rugby, ND: -13° F
And if you count Wind Chill (U.S.):
Mt Washington, NH: -61° F
Barter Island, AK: -56° F
Wind Speeds:
Mt Washington, NH: 102 MpH
San Diego Brown, CA: 108 MpH
And that's just YESTERDAY. Summers are getting hotter, weather events (hurricanes, tornados) are getting more extreme, winters are chillier. It's not global warming, it's global extremes.

(38,437 posts)The rise in CO2 causes average temperatures to rise which triggers a host of global responses.
However, you are simply giving an international weather report.

(38,437 posts)Australia is feeling the nasty bite of global climate change.
I wonder if the Ozzies who vocally resisted measures taken in their country to combat climate change are rethinking.

(10,745 posts)It's increasingly looking like this is what we'll end up facing, and not just warming.
Of course, Tony Watts and his fellow deniers will probably continue to deny what is already obvious until the day they drop dead. But all the evidence we have says that average global temperature has gone up, and certain human activities have been the primary cause for such.

(14,881 posts)Here in Maine we've been swinging between record warms for winter (pushing 50) one week, swinging down to near zero in a matter of hours. Stays near zero for a week or so, then swings back up to 40s in a matter of hours, then modifies, then wind blasts us back down to -13 (not including wind chill) this week.
Next Wednesday were supposed to swing back up to 40s with possible rain, and then start swinging back down to low teens / single digits toward the end of the week.

(20,166 posts)At 12 Noon on Sunday, February 17, thousands of Americans will head to Washington, D.C. to make Forward on Climate the largest climate rally in history. Join this historic event to make your voice heard and help the president start his second term with strong climate action.
Crippling drought. Devastating wildfires. Superstorm Sandy. Climate has come home and the American people get it.
The first step to putting our country on the path to addressing the climate crisis is for President Obama to reject the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline. His legacy as president will rest squarely on his response, resolve, and leadership in solving the climate crisis.
