Reopen Filibuster Reform . . (Petition ~ Daily Kos)

http://campaigns.dailykos.com/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=309

Just weeks after Democrats and Republicans reached agreement on a watered down version of filibuster reform, Senate Republicans are up to their old obstructionist tricks. More than 40 Republican senators have stated they will filibuster any nominee to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau unless Democrats agree to gut the CFPB's power to actually protect consumers.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid stated that if Republicans continued to abuse the filibuster, he might re-open the process to change Senate rules. Given this latest Republican move, Reid may need to re-open that process sooner rather than later.

Please sign our petition urging Harry Reid to re-open the process of filibuster reform in the Senate. We must remain vigilant and build the case for filibuster reform every time Republican obstructionism prevents the Senate from functioning as it should.

but he'll need SIXTY SEVEN Senators to change the rules now, and he doesn't have them. If forty GOP senators are already willing and able to filibuster President Obama's nom for the CFPB, where in the hell is he going to get the sixty-seven senators needed to change the rules now? Does he really think we're this stupid and ignorant?

He damn well knows NO rules will be changed. I bet he's just tired of hearing from his constituents how disappointed they are that he folded on the constitutional option in January and he's trying to save face.

And no, it can't hurt to keep pushing, but it's a lost cause. We don't have 67 progressive Democrats in the Senate to be able to change Senate rules especially when it concerns the GOP's favorite pastime of abusing the filibuster in order to keep control of the Senate even though they lost in the election - with Democratic Senators' blessing, of course.
