(UK) Gender abortion scandal: ministers rule out monitoring sex

Recording the sex of aborted foetuses would be too costly and could distress women, ministers have ruled, despite evidence that illegal terminations on gender grounds may be taking place in the UK.

The Government was this month urged to open an inquiry after officials found signs that birth rates for girls and boys vary noticeably according to where their mothers were born.

Earl Howe, a health minister, said that these differences in rates of male and female births among mothers of certain nationalities may “fall outside the range considered possible without intervention”.

It formed the first official statistical evidence potentially backing up concerns that sex-selection abortions are being carried out in Britain.

MPs have called for doctors to be forced to record the sex of aborted foetuses in a bid to tackle any illegal activity.

Dayton to Abandon Gender-Based Abortion Bill, Has Others in the Works

Abortion – its control and availability – is a usual topic in the GOP-controlled Utah Legislature.

So far this general session not much has been proposed on abortion. But that may change.

Sen. Margaret Dayton, R-Orem, tells UtahPolicy that she is abandoning – at least for this year – her bill that would have outlawed abortions based on the sex of the baby.

Instead, she has a short abortion bill, SB60, introduced Tuesday, that would require the state Health Department to keep track of all abortions performed in the state each year and detail how far along the embryo/fetus is at the time of the abortion.

Dayton tells UtahPolicy that while her bill only deals with the gathering of data, there are other “protected” abortion-related bills that she won’t talk about, being prepared by other legislators, that could come this session, or could come in a future session and use her data-collecting for their justifications.

Most are private. Its as a result of this issue that the NHS will not provide scans if they suspect the result could lead to an abortion based on gender.

2. They should be recorded for statistical purposes

but not as a means to back up opposition legislation though I suppose that's how it would be used. My feelings are mixed on this because as a whole I oppose abortion solely for the sake of gender but what can you do without restricting rights of choice?
