LOL! Wingnuttery: Prior to the 1970s women had the better end of the deal

<snip>

Prior to the 1970s, people viewed gender roles as as equally valuable. Many would argue women had the better end of the deal! It’s hard to claim women were oppressed in a nation in which men were expected to stand up when a lady enters the room or to lay down their lives to spare women life. When the Titanic went down in 1912, its sinking took 1,450 lives. Only 103 were women. One-hundred three.

Compare that with last year’s wrecked cruise line, the Costa Concordia. It resulted in fewer deaths, but there was another significant difference. “There was no ‘women and children first’ policy. There were big men, crew members, pushing their way past us to get into the lifeboats. It was disgusting,” said passenger Sandra Rogers, 62.

The captain of the ship agrees. In USA Today, Francesco Schettino was asked about his New Year’s resolution. He responded, “Bone up on the parts about ‘women and children first’ and ‘the captain goes down with his ship.’”

yep, (some) men stood up when a woman entered a room; proof positive that that women weren't oppressed?

Just how stupid is this creature?

Suzanne Venker has written extensively about politics, parenting, and the influence of feminism on American society. Her latest book, "How to Choose a Husband and Make Peace with Marriage," is now available at Amazon. Also available is her new Kindle Single, "The War on Men".

teaching, clerical or nursing. Of course, when you met the right man, you got married, had babies and stayed home. Yeah, things were great for women back on the "good old days".

Ms. Venker suggests we go back to the halcyon days of "Leave it to Beaver" where women only had to worry about birthing and raising kids and making sure dinner was on the table when "Ward" expected it. She shows no awareness that in today's society many, many households have two bread-winners because they can't pay the bills with just one. This reality requires feminism. It requires women to not accept Venker's premise that women are not equal to men and it requires a change in attitude whereby men stop looking at women as just baby-factories, maids, and cooks and start paying them the same wages as men for the same job because women ARE equal to men.

Oh, by the way Ms. Venker, why exactly is it okay for you to be out in the man's world writing and promoting books, taking speaking engagements and running a non-profit while other women should be at home subjugating themselves to their husbands? Don't you have some laundry to do, some babies to birth, or dinner to cook? Who's taking care of the kids while you're away on your speaking engagements and TV interviews?

Surely you must be concerned you're emasculating your husband by your high profile and publicity rather than remaining the happy un-equal wife in his shadow. In fact, you barely mention him anywhere online such as your FaceBook page or your website except to make sure everyone knows you have one. You remind me of a phrase parents used to use with their children that has long fell out of usage - fortunately. That was "Do as I say, not as I do." Never really worked for me back then and doesn't really work for me now either.

And for men. After lawsuits was filed and court ruling said they could not deny jobs because of gender. Then we had the smart remarks we was only getting the jobs because we were women of which I informed the they only had the jobs previously because they were men. Women performed better in many cases. Still the jobs known as women's jobs are lower paid so we did not have it so good. Do I appreciate a gentlemen holding doors open for me, yes and I express my thanks every time.
