A thought on "more guns = more safety"

An assailant brandishes a gun in a public place, maybe a darkened theater. If you were to try and shoot him or her, how would you know if you were targeting the right person? Especially in a pressure situation?

"When your life is in danger, you're going to shoot at the person with a gun."

Probably. The question is: if everyone has a gun, what are you going to do?

If you're protecting yourself, how would you know you're targeting the assailant if many around you have guns too?

I'm pro ccw but I do have a problem with the argument made that "if there was a CCWer there...". Again, this is not to say i'm against the idea of ccw, I just don't think it should be promoted a public safety policy.
