1930's Marital Rating Chart- Wife's Edition

Negative eleventy billion.

(Hunting for husband's edition)
Well, apparently there isn't one:
The test was designed to give couples feedback on their marriages. Either husbands or wives could take the test, which rated wives in a variety of areas. For instance, if your wife "uses slang or profanity," she would get a score of five demerits. On the other hand, if she "reacts with pleasure and delight to marital congress," she would receive 10 merits. The test taker would add up the total number of merits and demerits to receive a raw score, which would categorize the wife on a scale from "very poor" to "very superior."

I could see my demerits mounting as she asked if I played bridge or tennis, if I played a musical instrument, if I was interested in college basketball, if I was pissed that my tax money was supporting lazy people who refused to work, et cetera. It was all about if I could be plugged into her social life as a replacement for her ex. Very little to do with a new relationship.

Everybody has a list, I suspect.

If a woman ticks positive on every merit and doesn't tick on any demerit, she would have 25 points. Which according to the good doctor would mean she was "poor". That's the best she can do. Miss out on one merit or have one demerit, then she is "very poor".

Of course, it's possible that then list extended to 4 or 5 pages, but who could be bothered with such BS?

Regardless, I'm deep into negative territory...

My poor husband will just have to suffer my unpainted nails, cold feet and lack of button sewing skills )

12 questions, one which has 5 points, one with 10. So 10 x 1 + 5 +10 =25.

I used to have a girlfriend who insisted I go to bed on her side and warm it up. When she came to bed, I had to get onto my (cold) side and also cuddle her till she warmed up. I got my "revenge" by getting up one winter night, telling her I was going to stand outside naked for 10 minutes and then come back. Strangely, she didn't want to cuddle anymore.

We were young and stupid.

I'm good with buttons and never have cold feet. I used to paint the nails on my right hand. Five different colours. I used to play competive chess (not at a very high level) and I'd play the first 10 moves with my unpainted left hand, then start playing with my right hand. Don't think it won me any games, but it was amusing to see my opponent's reaction. But your husband is safe - I'm male and straight.

I like that he did surveys to find out the chief complaints.

I wonder what categories such a survey would turn up today.

Why is it a good thing for her to go to church with the kids on Sundays but its also a good thing for her to let the old man sleep in on sundays and holidays? Could it be that God prefers a sleeping man.
