A state lawmaker in Georgia is so perturbed that someone used Photoshop to put his head on a porn star's body that he now wants any kind of lewd Photoshopping to be banned. "No one has a right to make fun of anyone," he says.
<snip>
He clearly believes that his constituents are so drawn to his Earnestness that anything that deviates it from absolute Earnestness deserves the full metal force of the law.
Which is why he wants to make lewd, coarse, filthy Photoshopping illegal and punishable with a fine of $1,000.
<snip>
He fulminated to Fox News: "No one has a right to make fun of anyone. It's not a First Amendment right."

His name is Earnest Smith, and sorry folks, but he's a DEMOCRAT.

(16,191 posts)And you have a right to sue for libel and slander. You do not, however, have the right to pass a law prohibiting free expression as it relates to political figures...even if it is to make fun of them.
Seriously, if Earnest is so worked up over an online Photoshop, what is this guy doing in politics? The old saying "If you can't stand the heat, get outta the kitchen" comes to mind. Dealing with the fact that half the people are going to despise you is a pretty fundamental part of being a politician. If he can't hack it, maybe he needs to find another line of work.

(55,445 posts)If you really want to weep for the future of this nation, go see how many uneducated, batshit insane cretins are in the state legislature (and how many more of them essentially have a 'get-reelected-for-life' ticket)...
In Virginia, almost all of them are either in the legislature to enrich themselves and/or business partners; or because they're "god/guns/gays" zealots...

(114,904 posts)In the State Senate we have 20 dems, 3 progressives and 7 repubs. Even most of the repubs aren't bad.
In the Senate we have people like Peter Galbraith, former U.S, diplomat, David Zuckerman, organic farmer, environmentalist and former chair of the Ag committee in the House; as well as Philip Baruth, novelist and former liberal political commentator, Dick McCormack, folk musician and broadcaster, Anthony Pollina, former head of the Progressive Party. Most of these guys are very liberal.
Our dem and progressive members of the House, rock too. And we hold a veto proof majority.
