(4,788 posts)that his visit be treated quietly and that no dignitaries be inconvenienced by having to come out to greet this plane. It may be the result of a courteous gesture on the part of the President and no slight intended by the personnel of the base.

(16,191 posts)The President doesn't get a band and cadre of dignitaries every time his plane lands. The President is on a schedule, and it's not that uncommon for him to just get off the plane, get in the limo, and head off to wherever the destination may be.

I'd just as soon the President go about the business we need him to do and avoid the sycophants and suck-ups who do nothing more than waste the day. Too many people too caught up in false formalities and the senseless trappings of office we as citizens of a democracy should shun rather than honor. The President is a citizen first, just like the rest of us, and though the office should command some measure of respect it should not require that we be obsequious.

(15,036 posts)And personally, I'd prefer a return to the original format, where the Sergeant at Arms read the President's message and the content was the focus, not the applause sign.

(31,706 posts)...the House and Senate are in session and Thursday is usually "voting" day (not that there's much worth voting on). This looks like a meet and greet...yep, a photo-op...more interested in the media coverage his speech will generate. I reckon the President will be back at the White House in time for dinner...just another day at the office.

(29,414 posts)and then I came back here. Although a pie-throwing smilie would work just as well. I'll have to make sure it's made with Georgia peaches
