They're floating germ factories. Its like saying "hey I want to go on vacation but I don't want to leave the hotel for a week".

with all the news cameras all around filming every filthy inch of this disaster and the sickened mass of people. better to wait til dark so you cant see the extent of the nastiness and perhaps there will be less reporters there but even if the reporters are still there it'll be dark and the darkness will provide cover. hey i could be wrong but companies care more about image than people so this would not be surprising
