Scalia: State of the Union ‘a childish spectacle’

Ultraconservative U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia missed the Tuesday night State of the Union speech, and instead used a speech across town in Washington, D.C., to describe the annual SOTU ritual in the House chamber as “a childish spectacle” to which he would not lend dignity.

Supreme Court justices are usually seated down front at the president’s annual speech: President Obama used the SOTU in 2010 to strongly criticize the Supremes’ “Citizens United” ruling, while blew away regulation that went back 103 years to Teddy Roosevelt and unleashed unlimited, unregulated campaign spending by secretive “SuperPACs.”

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito shook his head, and was lip-read to say “not true” in response to Obama’s criticism of the high court’s 5-4 decision.

Of State of the Union, Scalia told Smithsonian Associates: “It has turned into a childish spectacle. I don’t want to be there to lend dignity to it.” Scalia was named to the high court in the 1980s by President Reagan.

I'll bet Fat Tony would have had no problem attending a Rmoney SOTU... and he can't "lend dignity to it" because he has none to lend.

you have, apparently, never bothered to read:

The practice arises from a command given to the president in the Constitution of the United States:
“ He shall from time to time give to Congress information of the State of the Union and recommend to their Consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient. ”

— Article II, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution

President Wilson was the first to give a SOTU in 1913. Previous presidents just sent a letter to congress.

Brain-dead, right-wing has-been. Talk about delusions of grandeur.

Want to "lend dignity" to something, Scalia? Attend the next NRA convention---you'll come off as "dignified" compared to Nugent and LaPierre. That's how low the threshold is, these days.....

which has become a pawn of the corporate hierarchy. Scalia took away representative government from the people and awarded it to the ruling plutocracy. He even robbed the citizens of their own chosen president by popular vote and handed it to the republican party of George Bush and Dick Cheney.

It started with Reagan -- the partisan whooping and hollering and jumping to one's feet to applaud this or that. I disliked it then and I'm not particularly fond of it now. But I doubt its going to ever change.

Justice Ginsberg predicted will be overturned like other erroneous SCOTUS decisions have been, better get used to begin outvoted: President Obama is likely to appoint two justices and the Democratic president after him will probably have the opportunity to put at least two more on the bench.

Just like the entire country, the Supreme Court is going full Blue as time goes by. And when it does, the 2nd amendment will be properly re-interpreted to apply as it was meant: to "well-regulated" national guards.
