Source: Chicago Tribune
Illinois Republican Party leaders are scheduled to gather behind closed doors Saturday to discuss the fate of state GOP Chairman Pat Brady following his endorsement of same-sex marriage.
But it's unclear whether the Republican State Central Committee will reach a decision or if the special meeting will only highlight ideological and personal rifts in a political organization struggling for relevancy in a Democratic-led state.
Brady, who has served as chairman for almost four years, illustrated the long-standing strains within the state GOP between its socially moderate and conservative wings in January when he backed legislation to legalize gay marriage in Illinois. (23,549 posts)Illinois. It's very high quality but the owner jim oberweis is total slime. He had ads when he was running for governor that made Mexican immigrants looking like cockroaches invading the USA. I'm glad our state didn't fall for that. He has run for governor and senator and so far he can only get elected to the state senate. I'm not surprised he is trying to get Brady out.
BTW there is a lot of optimism here in Illinois that the bill will pass.
But, who knows maybe without Brady's support it wouldn't pass. I know without a huge grassroots effort, it wouldn't pass.
