Officer Who Fired Shot In New York High School Suspended

Officer Who Fired Shot In New York High School Suspended

HIGHLAND, N.Y. (AP) — A New York town that began assigning an armed police officer to guard a high school in the wake of the Connecticut massacre has suspended the program after an officer accidentally discharged his pistol in a hallway while classes were in session.

Lt. James Janso of the Lloyd police department tells media outlets Officer Sean McCutcheon will be suspended while an investigation continues.

McCutcheon was assigned to the high school in the Hudson Valley town of Highland in January. Janso says the program has been suspended for now.

There were no staff members or students nearby when the weapon went off just after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Nobody was hurt.

If he gets an entire program suspended over an accidental incident, what guard will risk his life or job in a situation the NRA is so certain will happen without armed guards? Columbine High School had TWO armed guards on duty. It didn't stop anything. And frankly, a pistol isn't going to do anything against a semi-automatic rifle. The NRA is just the sales unit of the gun industry.

Maybe we should launch a campaign to tell our Congress critters we want armed guards in every school, library, Jiffy Lube, 7-11, restaurant, strip club, mall, discount store, street corner, bridge, subway station, bus, optomitrist's office, bar, liquor store, drug store, bank, car wash, pet store, hardware store, department store, auto parts store, office supplies store, clothing store, grocery store, and H&R Block location. Just keep the list going. Oh, and all union labor funded by the federal government, including the cost of the guns and ammo. That should get them thinking, if that's possible.

That's the usual response. The damn gun misfired. The gun had mechanical problems. Blah blah blah more guns more guns!
