(13,776 posts)What I've always wondered is, when some who's carrying decides to drink, who's gonna stop him/her?

(111,270 posts)drug intoxication than deal with a belligerent drunk and most nurses would agree with that. There are exceptions, of course, like meth and heavy doses of PCP, but alcohol is right there with them on the difficult to deal with scale.
Spotting the drinkers was also necessary since they all lie about what they drink and we'd need some standing orders in case they flipped into DTs. Untreated DTs are 50% fatal and we really wanted to get them medicated ASAP.
Deprived heavy stoners can be anxious, irritable and generally cranky, but not to the point they shoot anyone. I really have to agree with the cops about this one.
Now if we can only convince them to look the other way the way a lot of urban cops did in the late 60s. One way to kill a bad bunch of laws is general civil disobedience. That's a large part of what finally killed Prohibition.

(26,602 posts)Both should be equally accessible, but of the two it seems that alcohol creates the greatest public risk. And certainly alcohol + insert-anything generally is more dangerous than pot + insert-anything or the insert-anything by itself...

(26,355 posts)Yes, Virginia. Some states (like North Carolina), are trying to make it legal (or have already made it legal) for concealed-carry-permit holders to pack their prosthetic penises, and keep them in their pants when they walk into a bar and get themselves liquored up!
Talk about weapons-grade stupid!
If it were up to me, anyone caught with a weapon on his or her person while intoxicated would instantly lose all weapons privileges (yes, gun-bunnies, they're privileges, not rights!) That's right, I would use the power of the state to take that person's guns away by force. Because anyone stupid enough to be packing heat while boozed up is clearly too fucking stupid to be allowed near a deadly weapon. It's at least as serious of a public safety hazard as drunk-driving!
