"Religious Liberty" is a false argument: People have liberty, churches have licence.

This is the typical false argument, the GOP's illogical meme-du-jour: "Religious liberty."

the http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/opedcolumnists/religious_liberty_can_still_trump_Z5rHyrnIwH2DNypuUBb19L

Laws do not protect religions: Laws protect people. In america, ALL of our laws protect EVERYONE's freedom to worship as they like.

But that's not good enough for 2012's catholic bishops: This week's meme is that Obama care restricts the freedom of a religion to conduct it's business in america according to the religion's rules.

NO such protection exists, nor can it exit, nor can any law ever be written to maintain the freedom of a religion. However, religious people CAN use a nation's laws to control PEOPLE'S access to locales, goods, and services.

People can be restricted, but religion cannot be, because religion is not a citizen of any country.

This is just another false argument that enrages people who have no injuries to show for their argument.

The truth is, even if Obama wanted to, he couldn't stop anyone from following their own religious rituals, unless they happen to be in direct conflict with existing laws. No one can restrict a religion: Religion is an idea. Nothing can contain or curtail an idea, and no one is trying to.

All of those who are crying victim are forgetting that Obama hasn't stopped them from following a single religious idea. Just because the insurance will help someone pay for a drug or a service, that doesn't compel anyone to go out and consume that drug or service.

What is upsetting catholics is Obama's support of our freedom from religious restrictions on our rights as citizens.

They want to hold the power, and Obama refused to hand it over. He protected my access, because that's his job: I am an american citizen, and the law protects my rights, not the power of any idea.

And I will argue all day that everyone should continue to have total access to their houses of worship. To listen to them, you'd think Obama was burning or closing churches, taking down symbols, stopping religious music, publications, media, clothing, latin....

This is only an extension of he'll take your guns, he'll make america arab, he'll make us socialist....This is just more of the same. It's not about catholic colleges. It's not about religion at all.

This is more of Obama's black. Pure and simple.

feel free to re-post in the religion group. Thanks!

edit to add: I decided to unlock since this has to do with current events and the health care law, not so much religion.

Sometimes people mix up the logic, especially when personal religion and political elections are concerned.

This is right up there with Terry Shaivo and the birthers: It's racism all giftwrapped as religious freedom, which makes no sense, anyway.
