Karen Handel out! Next to go is Nancy Brinker

She's the leader of SGK and well let's face it, she's the one that brought in a woman who had a very clear agenda against Planned Parenthood.

President Harry S. Truman once said "The Buck Stops Here". Ms. Brinker - you need to take responsiblity for the PR nightmare that you created. You should have known that this would have been a PR nightmare by allowing politics to take over the Susan G. Koman foundation. What's worse, you went to Ari Fleischer, propaganda master of the George W. Bush administration, for advice on how to deal with this mess.

Thank you for reversing your decision to defund Planned Parenthood but honestly, as long as you, Ms Nancy Brinker, another former member of the Bush administration, are running SGK - this organization will be seen as a rightwing fundraiser and you'll see money bleed from your organization. Do the world a favor - it's time to retire and let fresh blood take over and rehabilitate this group that has done alot of good in the world of Breast Cancer research. SGK needs leaders who aren't political but put the #1 focus on their agenda - eliminating Breast Cancer.

However, she could step aside and take some honorary, non-voting position. I truly think this woman had good intentions with SGK but lately it seems to be more about the money and politics but less about the issue.

And if you read this article, you'll see that Nancy Brinker is part of the 1%. So I'm guessing she really didn't think twice about eliminating a resource that provided breast cancer screening to low income families.

Brinker IS the SGK foundation. She's not going anywhere. She will go down with SGK, but she won't leave.

It isn't just the PP debacle that has soured me on Komen. It would take a top down replacement and the introduction of some true experts in the field to direct their research funding efforts. And, a real change in the approach towards breast cancer towards state of the art treatment research agendas, additional research in primary and secondary prevention, as well as very comprehensive efforts to improve both screening and access to after care for the uninsured/under-insured. They have used unfocused PINK-inspired "increased awareness" efforts as a nebulous crutch to waste millions of $$ for decades now, that has long worn out its usefulness. Time to move from mere awareness to more targeted interventions. I'd also have to see a new mission statement underscoring these changes. Until then, I'm done with Komen.

they collect comes from corporations that make products that could be contributing to breast cancer - especially those that have endocrine disruptuing chemicals.
Is Komen pursuing research into the influence of these chemicals - likely not. They want to keep the money coming in.

I am done with them too.

It's a church. Look at all the similarities:

1) It threatens all who challenge it with charges of blasphemy, if your organization dares to use the color pink, or the magic words, "for the cure", they will come down on you like any state-supported religion has ever done.

2) The central figure (Brinker) is a godlike figure, hey, her sister died of breast cancer, right? That makes her beyond reproach in the eyes of the believers.

3) Great tithes, er, contributions are required of the faithful.

4) The true believers are called upon to perform meaningless rituals that have nothing to do with the stated "mission". Running around a track does not cure cancer, research does. But it gives the faithful something to do, not unlike kneeling before an omnipotent deity helps Him run the universe.
