I'm really emotionally invested in them being saddled with at least one of these current shitty candidates.

BHO will remain the only adult in the room--far removed from the fray.
November can't come soon enough!

(53,061 posts)The only thing Romney had going for him was that he could win elections.
And now that is gone.
No issues, no love and no nomination lol.

(14,061 posts)It will be Mitch Daniels.
I don't see any candidate releasing his delegates to anyone else, let alone anyone dropping out before late spring, or by the convention. Daniels would be the compromise candidate who most in the GOP could probably get behind.
It puts what he's been doing into perfect context. I think he took himself out of the running early because he saw the train wreck that was coming. But look what he's been doing since then: He's rammed through Right to Work in Indiana despite promises to labor back in 2008 that he would not back any change to union representation in the workplace. Creationism in schools has gotten some traction in the state (although it probably won't go anywhere this legislative session). Drug-testing for welfare recipients is practically law. He can claim some job creation in the state (although he can't run solely on that), plus he's got credibility with the right because of his time working for Ronald Reagan and George Bush. He's solidly anti-abortion. On almost every hot-button issue for the Right, Daniels fits the suit nicely. Also -- his national appearances lately: State of the Union rebuttal, and a recent speaking gig in Vegas, plus a rejuvenated "Draft Mitch" movement.
He wants it. But he doesn't want to get his hands dirty getting it. Letting the current crop of morons flame out works perfectly to his advantage. That's even more true now since Santorum has apparently made a miracle comeback, which makes things even less clear.
Before I get jumped on, I may be wrong and I probably am. But I would not be a bit surprised to see that this is how it shakes out.

(53,061 posts)Congressman or Senators are difficult to run simply because they have so many votes to defend.
Which makes Romney's inability to close the deal even more amazing.
