How is it that the only progressive news network who's promotional slogan is "Lean forward" spends three hours each morning teaching republicans how to campaign against progressive values?
I am struck by two things this week. For the better part of four decades we have watched the republican party wage war on women, marginalize minorities and pollute the democratic process over allowing women to control their own body. It is interesting to me that at a time when republicans use abortion as a rallying cry, the current administration is attempting to circumvent the issue by offering women the opportunity for an alternative to abortion. Yet, the administration is cast into fire as "forcing" the Catholic church to do something that it is unwilling to do. Solving the problem be damned, the GOP needs a talking point.
I find it appalling that MSNBC would permit Morning Joe to use this show in such a manner. Maddow is the only commentator in the last two years to expose the republican controlled states war on women's healthcare. Where is the rest of MSNBC you ask?.....The silence is defining.

(53,410 posts)Making it legal to choose doesn't infringe on religion at all. It's the very definition of choice. The Catholic Church is the organization that tries to force its members to do things. What should they care what any government says about this issue? They've used guilt and fear of God's wrath to keep women pregnant and barefoot since forever.
The Catholic Church is obviously losing it's power, and it isn't any government who is beating them. It's their own congregations.
No one in this country or any Democratic or Socialist country 'forces' women to have abortions. But the Catholic Church sure 'forces' women not to.
They should go take their fight to China where the government actually does force abortions on any woman who has already had a child.

(5,044 posts)That the individuals who actually vote, prefer this policy coming from the White House. For a few days now I have found myself frustrated by the misconceptions being thrown around in regard to this policy. Now I no longer care. This is a battle we will win.

(31,464 posts)After a couple of hours talking about nothing but the birth control/Catholic church issue, with a dribbling of Santorum for good measure, Joe gives us a two-minute rant about how it's too bad that the media is ignoring all the good news happening for Obama. Like, gosh, this abortion talk looks like it could be a distraction so the GOP media doesn't have to talk about things actually getting better! Can you imagine?
