Halliburton Closing Norton Location

http://www.wcyb.com/news/30401502/detail.html

NORTON, Va. -- An energy company operating in southwest Virginia has confirmed a number of reports that it is closing its office in Norton.

Halliburton says the closure is due to a decreased demand for energy. The company tells us that it is working hard to minimize the impact to its 80 employees and that 56 workers are considering positions in other areas of the company.

Zelma Burton with Halliburton Public Relations sent us the following response about the closure:

"Halliburton employs nearly 70,000 people in approximately 80 countries to provide support services for its customers. We go where our customers go. Due to decreased demand for energy services in Norton, Virginia, our operations there are no longer sustainable; however, we are working hard to minimize the impact on our 80 employees in the area. We were able to retain the majority of the affected employees; approximately 70 percent are considering offers to work in other areas of the company. For those who are still looking, Halliburton is offering severance and outplacement services.
