Scarborough: Santorum can't speak against gays and "hit one out of the park" like Reagan or Thatcher

Just now on Morning Joe. Intern Killer Joe is celebrating the Santorum Sweepin' Surge but worries that while he can speak out against gay marriage and abortion, he can't "hit one our of the park" like Reagan or Thatcher would.

Pictured above: Rick Santorum.

'Intern Killer' just knows that Romney cannot quite pull it off and wants to jump in on a winning candidate so that he can say he was right about something.

Though honestly when have the republicans ever relied on specific examples and facts?

Look at that GOP lineup! It is not going well for them, to say the least.

I'm waiting for the perpetually snockered Peggy Noonan to totter onto the MJ set, plop her butt into a chair and proceed to dismiss Obama's chances of getting reelected because he took on the HOly Mother Church, with her nose stuck in the air. Really, hers rank as Great Performances on TV...

It would be funnier still if they could get Noonan to mouth off when the cameras are no longer rolling about how absurd all of the candidates are the way that she did with Palin in 2008.

my s.i.l. works at an office at the Kennedy School for Government and hears stories about Peggy's "performances" while on a little toot...altho she has had her "moments" on MJ. I particularly cherish the time she dismissively talked to that youngish columnist from the business section of the NYT...about pulling stuff from "your little brain." The entire table went silent for a long beat...too bad it was too early in the morning for popcorn...

Here I found the clip: http://www.mediaite.com/tv/peggy-noonan-smoothly-slams-andrew-ross-sorkins-little-brain-on-morning-joe/

Look at their response to AIDS. Or Thatcher introducing 'Section 28', which effectively forbade any teacher talking about homosexual relationships as being normal.

Here's Reagan being anti-abortion: http://www.issues2000.org/Abortion_Conscience.htm

Thatcher did, however, vote to legalise abortion in Britain: http://www.margaretthatcher.org/document/103793

It sounds like Joe meant that all Santorum can do is speak against gays and abortion and that's why he can't hit it out of the park. I guess I'm giving Joe too much credit?

statement. But I think he is such an idealogue on these social issues he really wishes for a candidate who can express them better.

However, you may be right. Your post gave me something to think about...

...and apologies in advance, because this isn't going to be a direct quote, but my attempt to frame his remarks.

He said something along the lines of "whatever you think of" gay marriage or abortion...for it, against it...they are "middle America" issues, issues that are going to be on the minds of the voters. He said something about Barack Obama not making a direct statement like "I am for gay marriage." And he basically said that Reagan and Thatcher could fire up a crowd, and that Rick Santorum can speak out against gay marriage and abortion to "middle America" but he can't fire them up in a way that translates to votes like Reagan or Thatcher could.

He's basically talking about throwing red meat to the Republican "base," and saying that Santorum isn't a meat-thrower.

So it still comes down to a fantasy in Intern Killer Joe's fevered little brain, but that's what I heard, and what it seemed to mean to me.

But he also knew that all he had to do was stand back and watch while R-money and the serial adulterer destroyed each other, so he's pretty crafty as well.
