Lots of vengeance, hatred, killing, genocide going on in God's name in the Old Testament.

How big a part of the GOP do hard core social conservatives REALLY represent? They still only get one vote, on matter how loudly they scream during rallies and during primary season. Once the nomination is won, the Republican nominee is going to have to make a hard dash to the center to try to grab as many moderates and independents as possible. That is going to be damn tough dragging Santorum along. Look at what happened to McCain after he flubbed his VP choice. You also have to think that Santorum is going to drive as many people to vote against him and he will to vote for him.

8. I don't think so

The far right is likely to be out just voting against Obama. Obama himself energizes them. Where Romney needs to gain is with independents, who right now he is turning off. I really don't think a VP can ever really help much - people do decide on the President. However, it can hurt - as evidenced bu Palin. I knew people who still believed in the maverick McCain, beloved of the media. Palin scared them enough to push them to Obama.

I would imagine that Romney will pick someone with foreign policy expertise. (I guess he could go far right and meet this with Jim DeMInt.)

Romney's best bet would be to pick a non-DC-tainted popular sitting governor of a swing state -- I'm looking at you, Bob McDonnell -- run on a theme of competence, and try to pick up independents. A fire-breathing fundy VP would completely screw that pooch. Here's hoping!
