Dallas Police and the federal Transportation Security Administration have offered their help in securing DART rail stations in the wake of the fourth fatal incident at a station since November, officials said Wednesday.

Dallas Area Rapid Transit spokesman Mark Ball said the details of that help are yet to be clarified but could include officers on trains.

“They said to let them know if they could help us,” Ball said by email. “We don't know what that means exactly and want to talk. [It] could mean placing TSA officers or Dallas PD on board a few trains or at a few stations temporarily.”

The rethinking of safety at DART’s many train platforms follows Tuesday’s running shootout between a man and a DART officer at the Arapaho Center Station in Richardson. The assailant and a bystander were killed, and two other people, including a police officer, were wounded.
