CnN Suspends Roland Martin for Tweets

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/08/roland-martin-suspended-cnn-super-bowl_n_1263276.html

The move came three days after Martin caused an outcry by tweeting that people should "smack the ish" out of any male fans of an underwear ad starring David Beckham. After gay rights groups accused him of condoning anti-gay violence, Martin first said that he was merely making fun of soccer players, and then issued an apology of sorts, saying that he regretted "any offense" he had caused.

And yes, the 'n' in CnN is meant to be as small as their journalistic prowess is.

3. Suspension seems appropriate

Right up until the non-apology apology gets proffered, along with the "I didn't really mean what I clearly said, I really meant something else entirely" bullshit excuse. Then suspension doesn't seem like quite enough, because Roland Martin is either pretty stupid, or he thinks people who follow CNN are pretty stupid.

I guess he thinks he can get away with it, too.

5. WTF does that even mean?

Jeez, I always feel like the nerd in the damn room. I'm always behind on the latest lingo.

WTF is "ish?" And why does he say it needs to be smacked out?

Who is this dude's target audience? People who talk in riddles?

I might be annoyed if I could understand what the hell the idiot was saying.

Is he mad because he looks a little well-fed, and wouldn't be able to acquit that ad quite so well if he tried the damn drawers on? I just don't get what he's pissed off about. His rude pink jumpsuit remark I "get"--he's being insulting to gays. I am suspecting that the other remark is a similar insult, I'm just not understanding what he meant.

smack the ish out of him!"

"Ish" is what rappers say instead of "shit" so their songs and videos can get airplay. "Hyped" means very excited and enthusiastic.

Which gives us:

"If a dude at your Super Bowl party is acting very enthusiastic about David Beckham's H&M underwear ad, smack the shit out of him!"

...Because he might be gay.

My guess is that because a Super Bowl party is the ultimate hetero-macho ritual, a man who would get excited by a commercial featuring a man wearing and selling nothing but underwear isn't really a man. For which the "traditional" solution has been homophobic violence...

I always say that, especially here, you learn something new every day!

That makes absolute sense--would I have ever figured it out on my own, though? Very unlikely!

Thanks a million!

Needless to say, I disagree with his premise entirely, but at least now I know what the idiot was trying to say!

Thought you were going to skate, eh, bruh? Thought CNN would bend over backwards for you?

As for the pink jumpsuit, "#teamsackdatwardrobe" would have been actually funny.

So what are you going to do now -- scream "racism"?

12. I guess I'm not seeing why he was suspended..

as a contrast...

Pat Buchannan was only recently suspended this election cycle after years of being on MSNBC saying all kind of crazy stuff about Black folk.

Roland Martin sends out a couple of tweets that could be perceived as homophobic and he is suspended with the quickness.

You can call the President "A Dick", and be back on your TV spot within 30days...
