The talking heads on TV keep telling us that there is popular outrage brewing against the order for catholic organizations to cover birth control, where is it?
The outrage over Komen was obvious and everywhere, but I have yet to run into any overt support of the catholic church outside of the catholic church and a few right wing politicians. Could someone please point me to the massive opposition I keep hearing about?

I used to say to my husband,"No allegedly celibate male is going to tell me what to do". He would just shake his head. Little did we know what was ahead.

(4,840 posts)that decided they would pay one employees' medical procedure choice but they wouldn't pay for yours because they didn't agree with the procedure? Aren't they basically saying to those workers, don't work for us? It seems to me, if you want to employ workers of varied beliefs, you shouldn't discriminate against their medical choices. Otherwise, it seems to me these institutions should just admit they want to only employ fully practicing Catholics. Don't suggest you are an equal opportunity employer by saying you will hire any one of any creed or belief and then, once they are on board, try to discriminate on a micro level. It seems a tad insincere.
That's just my take on it.

(22,871 posts)can only enforce it's "no birth control" policy through denying a woman the insurance to cover it. My feeling is that if the catholic church doesn't want women to use birth control then it's their job to convince catholic women not to use it, since they've tried that and it doesn't work, they're denying them coverage instead. It's sexist bullshit.

(6,716 posts)but to answer your question, it's not coming. Sorry Republican and talking heads, these "moral" issues aren't going to fly in 2012 like they did in 2004.

(3,425 posts)THAT outrage was visceral, and it came from people on the pro-birth control side of the issue.

(82,849 posts)Every demographic they've identified have polled in favor of providing insurance coverage for birth control, except one - White Evangelicals. Even Catholics are in favor of requiring coverage.
So the question is: Why is the administration looking for accommodation on this issue? It's not like White Evangelicals constitute a huge portion of the electorate, and even if the administration caves on this, those White Evangelicals aren't suddenly going to vote Democratic anyway.
