(2,870 posts)Tornado formed about five miles west of my house as a "rope," then grew into a giant "wedge" as it took off east/northeast through the heart of Moore. It was on the ground a little more than 11 miles. Media here are being quite professional and reserved, refusing to report injuries and fatalities numbers until they get official word. Looks like it could be massive.

(51,076 posts)I'm 35 miles east of tulsa and we didn't get any rain. A few sprinkles and a lot of wind but no rain.
It was the same as yesterday when the storms were coming though, they split and went to the north and to the south of us, leaving us high and dry.
My wifes btother lives in south OKC and we haven't been able to get a hold of him yet so we'll be on pins and needles until we do..
I really dislike tornados, really really really hate them and as I get older the more thats true

(24,853 posts)I was in and out yesterday and didn't have time to tell you that what you mailed me sent chills down my spine. If you see Loyd Dale anytime soon you tell him to give you a hug for ME, right after you give HIM a hug for me (does that even make sense?). The last time I saw him we fished together in a Bass Pro tournament and that was like 35 years ago.
This afternoon when the news started coming over my radio I was kicking myself in the ass for not answering you yesterday. It just goes to show you, doesn't it, how fleeting life really is. I've lost touch with my OK folks and at times like this we always get in phone touch and promise to have a big reunion but it just never seems to happen.
I'm planning to be in OK soon if it kills me to do it. When I get there, I am coming to look you up, and yeah, that's a threat LOL.
Please be safe
Chris

I'll make it a point to look Loyd Dale up. I'll let you know when I do.
For those who are perplexed by this exchange. Chris and I have just recently became aware that we come from the same area and have begun the wonderful journey of friendship. Our families have known each other for years although Chris and I haven't meet yet. Amazing just how small this world really is.
All this because of little O DU.

(51,076 posts)If our manufacturing jobs would have stayed here where we do have some environmental laws I'm inclined to believe climate change wouldn't be so bad but the rich seen fit to skirt our laws by shipping our jobs off shore to where there is little if any such protections to where we find ourselves in this mess we're in. I make no bones in blaming the worlds situation on the rich mostly. Whether it be the climate, hunger, poverty, health, wars, whatever on the already insanely rich wanting yet more. No way can any one of them have a real reason for the riches that they have except for their being greedy. In my simple world view I see most all problems with its roots in that alone.
This hurricane season has me worried more than any season I can remember and the same reason we're having this kind of weather here now.
We're all in this together except the insanely rich not so much as they have the resources to relocate as they see fit. You and I don't necessarily have that option.

(269,157 posts)Large sections of the suburbs are really farm land and the more homes they put there in tornado alley, the more people will be killed.
