Nominee called for aid money to be shifted to Palestinian state, large force deployed to protect against Israeli agressionBy HAVIV RETTIG GUR and ADIV STERMAN June 6, 2013
A decade-old video of Samantha Power calling for the US to shift Israeli military aid to Ramallah and to deploy forces to protect Palestinians from IDF troops may prove a hurdle in the UN envoy nominees confirmation process.
Power, nominated Wednesday to replace Susan Rice as the US ambassador to the UN, has been an outspoken advocate of intervention to protect human rights, and in 2002 was asked to apply that stance to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, then in the throes of the second intifada.
It may more crucially mean sacrificing or investing I think more than sacrificing literally billions of dollars not in servicing Israelis military, but actually in investing in the new state of Palestine, Power said during a talk at the University of California-Berkeley. In investing billions of dollars it would probably take also to support I think what will have to be a mammoth a protection force.
Power, then an academic at Harvard, also alluded to the fact that such a move would exact a political price from powerful Jewish voters in the US.
Putting something on the line might mean alienating a domestic constituency of tremendous political and financial import, she said.

(25,699 posts)He's an antisemite, he's a homophobe, and he's even a holocaust apologist. But he's been given numerous awards and been invited to speak by a plethora of "pro-Israel" group without them batting an eyelash, because he's also virulently anti-Palestinian and anti-Muslim.
That's all it takes to be pro-Israel. Take a look at numerous Zionist group's rankings of American legislators; Michelle Bachman ranks high, high, high! because she's done a lot for Israel? No, because she's a total fucking bigot who goes on rants and tirades about the evils of muslims and "accuses" the president of being an Arab.

(9,462 posts)He also says in the lead-in that one side is using genocide. The interviewer asks basically hypothetically what should be done if one side is using geocide. She responds saying that it's very difficult and that it involves two unwilling parties to be forced to do something they don't want to. She says it's undemocratic. The times of Israel is the Fox news of Israel. Disgusting abuse of information, distortiom for political gain.
