Friday night on Real Time with Bill Maher, host Bill Maher slammed Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R)s new law mandating that people can say Merry Christmas to each other this year without going to jail, a phenomenon that has been taking place exactly nowhere, ever.
The remarks came during Mahers weekly New Rules segment, in which he said, New Rule: If youre thinking about the sanctity of Christmas in June, just stop.
He was referring to the new Texas law, passed last week, assuring that people in the state are free to wish each other Merry Christmas without fear of reprisal from the people who wish theyd say something else, Maher explained, who total between three and nobody.
Come on, its the first day of summer, he said. Cant we wait to do this until the Christmas season really begins? On the last day of summer?
Maher tore into the Perrys speech at the bills signing ceremony, saying Oh, Rick. What a bimbo, and declaring that the governor is dumber than Miss Utah 2013, who notoriously botched a pageant question about wage inequality earlier this week.
Maher also noted that at the singing ceremony, Perry was surrounded by six men dressed as Santa and a rabbi, because, Why the fuck not?
Because in America, Maher said, It doesnt matter what you worship as long as you worship something. Religious people arent afraid of other religious people. Oh, sure sometimes they kill and hate them, but they dont fear them. They fear atheists, because we are the ones who arent clapping during Peter Pan.
Religion, Maher said, is kind of like a conga line. If one person doesnt join in then you see yourself through their eyes and you realize that you look like a schmuck.
