Well I must say this confirms what I saw from the information available. It was a case of miscommunication, misunderstanding and incompetence.

#Italy at #OAS: we had nothing to do w Evo #Morales' incident. It is #Bolivia that should apologize for having involved us in this. #Snowden

#France at #OAS: It was a technical error. Planes were mistaken at the administrative service. It wasn't a political act. #Morales #Snowden

#Spain apoligizes at the #OAS for the behavior of his ambassador in Austria towards Evo #Morales BUT adds he acted "in good faith". #Snowden

(16,020 posts)If you believe Spain, then you would be correct. I believe the President of Bolivia.
flamingdem
(39,321 posts)He would not reveal who that was, or his source wouldn't reveal it.
Now, in a public forum this should be revealed. In fact Insulza, head of the OAS mentioned this mysterious individual.
Use your logic, this was either a hoax or Maduro and the Bolivians mixed up the call from Ambassador Eacho about the extradition requests, and don't want to come clean.
They based these accusations on hearsay
Consider the Right Wing Spanish Ambassador who showed up. Maybe he was in on it. Regardless he didn't represent the USA and Spain apologized for his actions.
The Bolivians can't back down, they have to save face, they will be helped to do so by fellow OAS members and their resolution may or may not pass. But there is zero evidence of what he claims even after this investigation, just some grey zones.
Remember he was never stopped from refueling in Las Palmas, the first night.
If so please show me a report on that. This means if they'd gone there none of this would happen.
In the end they feared having enough fuel, so it was the size of the tank that determined decisions.

(39,321 posts)Plus, they are saying they did not block them at any time. The written note thing is he said / she said. Spain hasn't agreed that ever happened. Looks like Spain got the extradition request and probably some rumor was in the middle.
Still no mention of the supposed rumor person that Snowden was on the plane. Just confusion. That's how a hoax works.
===
"If any misunderstanding has taken place, I don't have any objection to saying sorry to President Morales," Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo said.
He repeated Spain's denial that it had closed its airspace to Morales's flight.
"Spain authorised the transit of its airspace. It granted airspace permission on the basis of the word of the Bolivian Foreign Minister," Garcia-Margallo said. "We believe the word of our allies and friends."
===
"The rumour that Snowden was on the plane was a rumour extended across the world and acknowledged by the Bolivian authorities in the texts they sent me," Garcia-Margallo said.
Asked whether the alert that Snowden was on the flight was raised by the United States, he said: "among other things".

(16,020 posts)Spain acknowledged on Tuesday that a U.S. request had led it to delay approving an overflight by Bolivia's president, but said it had given the go-ahead after receiving an assurance from Bolivia that U.S. fugitive Edward Snowden was not on the plane.
and neither is this
Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo was asked by reporters whether the alert had come from the United States. He replied: "Inter alia (among other things)."
nor this
He also confirmed the account of Bolivian Foreign Minister David Choquehuanca, who said on Sunday that Garcia-Margallo had asked Bolivia for a written assurance that Snowden was not on the plane before opening its airspace.
This is from Reuters.

(39,321 posts)it's not more than a confusion.
There are all these countries that got this supposed request.
ONE of them should be able to name that person who called and told them.
This can be asked at the session. Like Insulza said it's a wound and we need to clean it.
If we haven't heard it by now maybe we will tomorrow, but otherwise it was a rumor, hoax
or misunderstanding.
The USA did not say "get that guy on the plane".
They interpreted, whatever, it's on them. AND they let them pass, so it's moot.
The assurance stuff is also whatever, confusion. They let them pass.
Morales isn't going to get the apologies he wants for this reason

(39,321 posts)and it bothered me so much to see the lack of critical thinking of the press on this.
Really pathetic following the herd before things were sorted out.
No one wanted to read or report on the official Portuguese statement that they'd told the Bolivians to refile their flight plan 48 hours ahead of time.
That was before any supposed scary cia phone call
So the Bolivians did not, or ignored that and tried to land there. At that point they were told to fly to Las Palmas in Spain and as far as I know that was clear.
So the problem was their fuel gage or lack of fuel in a small plane.
They jumped to conclusions apparently.
quinnox
(20,600 posts)I can't buy that. There were countless news articles, all saying the same thing. I don't live in a bubble where I can disregard that mountain of evidence.

(10,611 posts)of the Snowden narrative is invested in pitting his heroic nobility against the Obama Evil Empire: The tyrannical, vindictive, desperate Obama will do anything to apprehend Snowden because Snowden made him look like a fool, and of course once caught, he'll be tortured and/or killed.

** Where is President Maduro who said that it was a CIA guy? What about the others who claimed this? NOW is their chance to bust this person. Crickets.
** There was probably a confusion between the extradition notices that went out and the idea that this meant Snowden was on the plane. Understandable when going between multiple languages.
This is their time to name names yet no one of the accusers has any..
